Two Organizations, One Conservation Ethic
Project Upland is a for-profit publishing company built on a simple idea: leave the uplands better than we found them.
The Project Upland Foundation is a nonprofit corporation created to act on that idea by supporting the science required for wildlife conservation.
The company tells stories.
The Foundation funds the research that makes those stories possible.

Why the Foundation Exists.
Wildlife conservation in North America depends on science-based management. But science-based management cannot exist without well-funded science.
Today, many of the researchers responsible for studying game birds and their habitats are working with limited resources. As support for research declines, the amount of reliable data available to guide management and policy declines with it.
The Project Upland Foundation was created to help address that gap.
What We Support
The Foundation invests in scientific research that provides practical, usable knowledge for wildlife conservation.
Funding support includes research conducted through:
- Universities
- State wildlife agencies
Our focus is game birds and the landscapes they occupy, with an emphasis on work that produces measurable conservation value.
Direct Giving
Project Upland Foundation is not a membership organization.
Its purpose is not to build a social club, hold banquets, or maintain a membership structure. The goal is to direct support toward scientific work and the people doing it.
This is a funding organization built to support research.

Connecting Hunters and Researchers.
Conservation has always depended on an informed hunting public.
Part of the mission is to reconnect hunters with the science behind wildlife management by highlighting:
- The researchers conducting the work
- The research itself
- The birds and habitats affected
Through education and storytelling, hunters can better understand the scientific method, peer review, the importance of continuity, and how data informs management decisions. A stronger understanding creates a stronger sense of ownership and responsibility for conservation outcomes.
Our Vision
We envision a future where:
- Natural resource scientists have access to needed funding
- Hunters support and advocate for scientific research
- Wildlife policy is informed by reliable data
- Game birds and upland habitats are sustained for future generations
The history of conservation shows that hunters have driven meaningful change before. The next step is ensuring the support of the science that guides management.
The Role of Project Upland
Project Upland, the company, helps communicate the work—telling the stories of the research, the researchers, and the birds—while the Project Upland Foundation helps make that work possible.
Together, the goal is simple: to leave the uplands better than we found them.
